Surplus Wire Buying FAQs
Straight answers about what we buy, how pricing works, what to send and how material leaves your site.
What kinds of wire do you buy in Ohio?
Copper and aluminum building wire, MC and AC cable, tray and VFD cable, control and instrumentation cable, flexible cord and welding cable, low-voltage and communication cable, and medium-voltage cable from 5kV through 35kV and above. Send the details even if you are not sure what a reel is — the jacket print usually identifies it.
Do you buy partial reels and used wire?
Yes. Full reels are the easiest to price, but partial reels, opened spools and used cable pulled from a project are reviewed too. Condition and remaining footage affect the offer, so send photos of the tag and the reel end.
How do I know what my wire is worth?
The offer depends on conductor metal, gauge, insulation type, voltage class, footage, condition and current demand for that construction. Photos of the reel tags and jacket legends are the fastest way to a real number instead of a range.
Do you pick up, or do I have to ship?
Both work. We schedule pickups across Ohio and can arrange freight if shipping is easier for your site. Tell us about dock access, forklift availability, trailer size and any gate or appointment restrictions when you send the details.
What if I have a mixed lot from a plant shutdown?
Mixed lots are normal for shutdowns and decommissioning. Send wide photos of the storage area plus close-ups of a few representative tags, and an inventory list if one exists. We will price what is identifiable and tell you what needs a closer look.
Is there a minimum quantity?
There is no published minimum, but small single-reel lots are harder to justify moving. If you have one or two reels, send the details anyway — it may still make sense depending on the material and your location.
Do you buy anything other than wire and cable?
No. This business buys surplus electrical and industrial wire and cable only. Equipment, machinery, vehicles and general scrap fall outside what we purchase, so a lot that mixes wire with other material is reviewed for the wire content alone.
How quickly will I hear back?
Quote requests are reviewed in the order they arrive. Requests that include photos of the reel tags, the jacket print and the overall stack are answered fastest because no follow-up questions are needed.
Which areas of Ohio do you cover?
The whole state. We work regularly in Central, Northeast, Northwest, Southwest and Southeast Ohio, including Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, Akron, Dayton, Youngstown, Canton and the cities listed on the service area pages.
What information do you need from a reel tag?
The manufacturer, the size in AWG or kcmil, the conductor metal, the insulation and jacket designations, the voltage rating and the length marked on the tag. A clear photo of the tag is usually enough.
What if the reel tag is missing or unreadable?
Look at the print on the jacket itself. Most building and industrial cable carries the size, temperature rating and voltage class in the legend. If the print is gone too, send a photo of the conductor end and the overall reel so the size can be estimated.
Do you buy wire with damaged or cut ends?
Sometimes. A cut end, water in the jacket or sun-damaged insulation changes the value but does not always make material unusable. Describe the damage honestly and include a photo — an accurate description gets a faster, firmer answer.
Can you work from an inventory list instead of photos?
For large volumes, yes. Send the list with sizes, footages and conditions, plus photos of a few representative reels so the descriptions can be checked against real material.
How is payment handled?
Payment terms are agreed before anything moves. The specifics — timing, method and any paperwork your company requires — are part of the pricing conversation, so raise them when you send the details.
Do you buy copper wire that has already been stripped?
This business buys wire and cable as material, not stripped bare conductor sold as scrap. Bare copper grounding conductor on a reel is a different item from stripped copper scrap, and only the former fits what we buy.
Will you sign a release or provide paperwork for our records?
Yes. Tell us what your facility requires — a bill of sale, a release form, weight tickets or a certificate of removal — when the pickup is scheduled so the paperwork is ready on the day.
Can we deliver the wire to you instead of scheduling a pickup?
Ask when you send the details. Depending on the volume and the material, a drop-off can be arranged instead of a pickup.
Do you buy wire from outside Ohio?
This site covers Ohio. If the material is in a neighboring state, say so in the form — it may still be workable, but the answer depends on volume and distance.
Ready to find out what your wire is worth?
Send the wire type, footage, condition and photos of the reels and tags. We review it and come back with pricing and pickup logistics.
