We Buy Surplus Flexible Cable and Portable Cord in Ohio
Flexible cable gets bought, used hard and left over. A contractor finishes a temporary power job with three coils of SOOW, a shop closes out a welding lead order, and a plant shelves a partial reel of shielded control cable. We buy those leftovers by the coil, reel or carton, anywhere in Ohio. Start with the jacket print and the footage left.
Reading Portable Cord Letters
SOOW is a 600 volt portable cord. The S means hard service, the two O's mean oil-resistant insulation and an oil-resistant jacket, and the W means it is rated for weather and water. The jacket is thermoset rubber, usually CPE or neoprene, which is why it stays flexible in cold and stands up to oil better than PVC.
You will also see SOOW-A, SEOOW, STOOW and the smaller SJ versions on the same shelf. Gauge runs from 18 AWG to 2 AWG with two to five conductors. Tell us the letter string exactly as printed plus the conductor count, because a coil of 16/3 SJOOW is a different product from 16/3 SOOW even when the two look alike.
- SOOW and SOOW-A, 600V hard service cord
- SEOOW, STOOW and SJ variants
- 18 AWG through 2 AWG, two to five conductors
Welding Cable Is Its Own Animal
Welding cable is fine-stranded copper with a rubber-type jacket, built to be dragged and flexed rather than pulled into a raceway. The stranding is much finer than building wire, which is what makes it limp. Sizes run from 6 AWG to 4/0, and the jacket is usually neoprene or a CPE compound.
Most welding cable carries a 600 volt rating and a temperature rating printed near the type. Check for nicks, exposed copper at the ends and jacket hardened by heat or sun. A lead dragged across a shop floor for a year and one that never left the reel are different lots to us, and we review them that way.
Flexible Control Cable and Tray Ratings
Flexible control cable is multiconductor, usually 18 through 10 AWG, with numbered or color-coded conductors and a 600 volt rating. Many constructions add an overall foil or braid shield with a drain wire for noise-sensitive circuits. Continuous-flex and occasional-flex designs are built differently, so note how the cable was used and whether it ran in a moving track or a fixed run.
Ask whether the cable is tray rated before you write it off. TC or TC-ER printed on the jacket widens who can use the material and makes a partial reel easier to move. Include that print in your description along with the conductor count and the footage.

Full reels, partial reels, coils and cartons are all reviewed. Condition changes the number, not the eligibility.

Flexible Cable & Portable Cord questions
What do the letters in SOOW mean?
Hard service cord at 600 volts, oil-resistant insulation and jacket, and weather and water resistance. The full string is printed on the jacket, and the exact string is what we need.
Do you buy welding cable with damaged jackets?
Send photos of the damage. A short section with a nick is a different situation from a lead that has been overheated along its length. We review each lot on what the photos show.
Does a tray rating change how you review flexible cable?
It can. TC or TC-ER print on the jacket affects where the cable can be used, so note it in your description. Include the conductor count and footage with it.
Selling flexible cable & portable cord?
Send the wire type, footage, condition and photos of the reels and tags. We review it and come back with pricing and pickup logistics.
